Diana Jergovic to Step Down May 15

April 30, 2026

To: The Caltech Community
From: Thomas F. Rosenbaum, Sonja and William Davidow Presidential Chair and Professor of Physics

Diana Jergovic, who has contributed to the Institute with remarkable dedication, clear vision, sharp insight, and a steady hand as vice president of strategy implementation, will conclude her service to Caltech on May 15, 2026.

Diana joined Caltech in July 2014 to create a new role and establish an administrative group charged to collaborate closely with the president, provost, division chairs, faculty, and senior leadership across the campus and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in order to execute and integrate strategic initiatives. Through her boundless energy and thoughtful leadership, Diana has contributed mightily to our community and to Caltech's long-term vision and vitality. She has been an unwavering advocate for Caltech's integrated research and education mission, and a responsible and caring steward of the organization's people and resources.

As the leader of the Strategy Implementation group, Diana oversaw the Institute's offices of strategy, finance, and operations; communications and external relations; campus climate, engagement and success; the campus arts and culture liaison; and the Caltech Heritage Project. Since joining Caltech, Diana also has been deeply involved in the Thirty Meter Telescope, an international project that includes Caltech, the University of California, and three sovereign nations: Canada, Japan, and India. She currently serves as co-Chair of the TIO, LLC Board which oversees the telescope project.

Throughout her tenure at Caltech, Diana selflessly assumed additional roles in times of need. She served for nine months as the acting vice president of development, and for more than one year as the inaugural dean of students for student experience. During these periods, she increased her service to the Institute to ensure continuity in operations and stability during critical transitions.

Diana joined the Caltech community in 2014 from the University of Chicago, where she filled a series of vital senior management roles over a 20-year period. She served as associate provost for academic and budgetary initiatives, as chief of staff to the provost, and as assistant vice president for research and education. Prior to these leadership roles, Diana was a research scientist with the university-affiliated National Opinion Research Center (NORC). In 2001 she was the project director for NORC's Florida Ballot Project, an initiative that examined, classified, and created an archive of the markings on Florida's 175,000 uncertified ballots from its contested 2000 presidential election.

I am deeply grateful to Diana for her contributions and service to Caltech over the last twelve years. Please join me in thanking her for her commitment to the Caltech community and in wishing her well as she embarks on her next chapter.
